Update: “Shocking News From My Rabbi”

November 23rd, 2011 by kevindawson

The Catholic forums have some fascinating, in-depth discussions. One in particular caught my eye… it was a debate on whether or not Christians should observe the ancient Hebrew holidays.

After all, Christians and Hebrews share a common heritage.

But the answer came back that Paul emphasized our new traditions as Christians. We have our own rich heritage and customs. And now, over 2000 years later, these traditions are as venerable as any.

So, instead of reveling in the traditions of others, regardless of semi-relevancy, would not that same effort be better served bringing us closer to Christ?

I love the Christian traditions of easter egg hunts and chistmas trees and mass shopping… Ha Ha Ha if those are “new traditions” than I think the Hebrew holiday’s that focus on remembrance of the events that took place and sharing in the strength of the Jewish people are a much better way to go. Please don’t lessen the strength of the Hebrew holidays by commercializing them and allowing the followers to forget the true meanings like you have done with the new traditions as Christians…

      Hey Stan,

Isn’t it appalling how paganism has infiltrated Christian holidays? For example, the god of fertility, Ester, has been absorbed into Easter, along with symbols of fertility: eggs.

      That’s just one.

      Peace,

      Kevin

I know, that is why I’m proud to be Jewish. I know very few Christ like Catholics. My wife works at a Catholic school and the prejudice and intolerance by the staff and parents is unbelievable… What happened to live and let live? The golden rules? Would a caring G-d shun African Americans, Middle Eastern People, Jews, Americans or anyone for that matter etc…

          Hey Stan,
It’s tempting, but we really shouldn’t judge a religion by its misapplication.

But as far as anyone being shunned, that’s just wrong. I know how you feel. I agree with C.S. Lewis, who said that we don’t know the Ever Living’s plans for other religions and peoples. He hasn’t told us.

          Peace,

          Kevin
